Three and a half hours that does everything a fjord trip should
City-centre departure, a fifty-metre strait, a waterfall, and back with the day still ahead.
It leaves from the middle of the city. Strandkaien is a few minutes on foot from the Bryggen wharf. No transfer, no early bus, no driving.
It reaches a genuinely narrow place. The Mostraumen strait is about six hundred metres long and only around fifty metres wide at its narrowest, with a tidal current running through it. That is closer to fjord walls than almost any day trip gets you.
The waterfall is real. The bow is taken in under a fall coming off the rock and the crew fill a glass from it. It is in nearly every review, and it is the reason to be outside rather than in the saloon.
And it is over by lunchtime. Three and a half hours quay to quay leaves the rest of the day for Bergen itself — which is the practical argument that decides it for most people with two days in the city.

Rosendal for a full day, Flåm for the famous names, a RIB to be close to the water.
If you have a full day and want time ashore, take Rosendal at $88. Two hours on the Hardangerfjord each way and about three and a half hours in a village with a manor built in 1665. That is a different kind of day, and a better one if you do not want to be on a boat the whole time.
If you want the famous names, take the Flåm day at $427. The Flåm Railway, the Stegastein viewpoint and the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord in one eleven-and-a-half-hour booking. Just know that only a couple of those hours are on the water.
